Greetings from Hungary,
What a wonderful time of the year. Our leaves are falling and the colors have been so beautiful! God paints the prettiest pictures all over His world…from Alabama to Hungary…and on.
We went to the cemetery in our area on All Saint’s Eve…Oct. 31st. The graves were decorated with candles and flowers. The next day I was able to ask one of my neighbors to explain why the candles were on the graves. She explained that it was in honor of all the Saints that did not have a day to celebrate them…Saint Nicholas, Saint Patrick, Saint Valentine, etc. November the 1st is a memorial day for family members that have died. That is why they put the flowers on the graves. They mix the two celebrations together and make one big celebration. Their families come together and the stores close for the two days.
After we had talked over the fence for a while, I finally got the nerve to ask if she would come over and have cookies and hot chocolate. (I had asked many times before and she always put it off.) She surprised me and said, “Yes!” I was so stunned that I stumbled with words. “How about today around 2 or 3?” Again, yes came from her. I was so excited that I tried to get into the door without opening it. This was around 10 so I got busy with getting things together. James helped me with the house and I got busy making Apple pie. Yes, I had said cookies, but these beautiful apples were sitting on my counter and I had smiles with my apple pies or peach pies before and my cookie abilities are still being worked on. Anyway, I began my cooking and praying, “Lord, please don’t let me poison her.” Well, at two she called and asked if we were ready for her family and again I weakly said yes. See, I didn’t expect her whole family. Here came her grown daughter that is 25 and expecting a baby any day; her 20- year old son; Valentine, her 10- year old son; her husband and herself. They were dressed up and clean as a pen. Fear jumped right out in the open. Oh, no I might not have enough cups????? They were great! They all practiced their English on us and ate the apple pie as if it was great. The hot chocolate was a big hit and I sent some home with them to enjoy later. James had given one Bible to them for Easter. The mom said that she had been reading it, but it was hard to understand. God opened a door for me to ask if she would like to have one that was written in English and Hungarian. That way she could practice reading English and Hungarian. Her daughter’s eyes light up. I then asked if they would like to have three of them?
They accepted the Bibles! GOD IS SO GOOD!
Please pray for the Bibles to be read and used for His Glory!
THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE PRAYERS!
PRAY ON…………LOVE, PAT
