North Highlands Baptist Church Staff Members
Carl is from Florence, Alabama, but moved up north to Indiana his senior year and graduated from Ball State. After graduating, Carl felt called into the ministry and starting serving in Indiana and then Kentucky. Early in his ministry, Carl met and married Tara and together they are trying to raise their three boys; Aaron, Danny, and Jacob. On Easter day, 2012, Carl starting serving a North Highlands. Few things bring him near the joy and satisfaction of leading a choir and congregation in the worship of his King, Jesus. When not working on an order of service, he loves watching his kids play, reading, cycling, and throwing a golf disc really far!
Susan was born and raised in Oak Grove and graduated from Oak Grove High School. She met her husband Mark working at a local restaurant and they married shortly afterwards. They have two sons, Chris and Andy, a daughter in law Tanya and two granddaughters, Eleanor and Cora. Susan began serving at North Highlands as preschool director in 2000 and as an office assistant in 2015. She loves children and the opportunity to share in their lives, teaching them at an early age about Jesus. Her family is very important to her and they spend time camping and vacationing together.
Shelley has lived in Hueytown for 14 years, but is originally from Oklahoma…go Sooners! She met and married her husband, Michael, during seminary at Southwestern in Ft. Worth, TX, where she earned degrees in Christian Education and Family Counseling. She has a 10-year old daughter whom she loves to spend time with doing “girly” things, and an active 5-year-old son who keeps the family entertained.
Michael grew up in Hueytown. He is a graduate of Hueytown High School, Samford University, and Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. While in Texas he met and married his wife Shelley. They have two awesome kids, Jacey and Caleb. Michael began serving as Student Minister at North Highlands in 2003. He loves seeing students growing in their faith and joining the mission of making disciples of all nations. He enjoys spending time with his family, meeting his step goal for the day, and all things Disney.
Senior Adult Pastor
Gwin is graduated from McAdory High School and studied at Southeastern Bible College in Birmingham. He proudly served our country in the army for two years. He is married to Glenda, his high school sweetheart. They love spending time with their three children, six grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Bro. Gwin began serving North Highlands as Senior Adult Pastor in 1996. He enjoys serving this wonderful group of Godly believers. They love the Lord and serving His church. One of their favorite times to gather is their monthly Gadabouts meetings on the second Thursday of each month.
Frank has been the Missions Pastor at North Highlands since 1999. He grew up in a pastor’s home and has lived in the Bessemer/Hueytown/McCalla area all of his life. He loves helping people and has been a blessing to many. The love of his life is Jesus. Next to Jesus, he has been blessed by his beautiful wife, Cindy since 1976. Together they have two sons, Steve and David and six grandchildren. Frank loves working with wood as a hobby, fishing every chance he gets, and spending time with his family.
Bill grew up in Bessemer and graduated from McAdory High School. He married his high school sweetheart JoAnn. They have 4 children, of whom 2 are deceased, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill has also attended Southeastern Bible College, Howard College, and Mercer College. He has pastored churches in Georgia and Alabama and has served as Education Pastor at North Highlands since 2000, when Delonah Baptist and North Highlands merged. Bro. Bill’s heart for people shows as he visits hospitals and nursing home and leads the CARE Ministry.
Ammy grew up in Bessemer, Alabama. Graduated from McAdory High School. She has been married to husband, John for 23 years. They have 3 beautiful children Kristin, Jake and Kendra. Ammy began working as Financial Secretary at North Highlands in 2012. Her passion is helping others. God has blessed her by working and serving at NHBC at this time. She loves doing crossword puzzles, games, painting, baseball, and spending time with family and friends.
